Hired exhibition stand
London

Event Sustainability Live was a significant event for us, offering the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that a sustainable exhibition stand can be much more than just a cardboard display. While cardboard displays certainly have their place, at GH Display, we believe that creative sustainable exhibiting goes beyond cardboard. In fact, we’ve made it our mission to find sustainable alternatives across a wide range of materials, ensuring that our customers are not limited by design options and that reusability is built into everything we create. We’re not stopping here; it’s a continuously evolving project, and our internal Sustainable Working Group are always on the look out for new eco-friendly material options that we test and incorporate into our designs.
Our 6m wide x 4m high back wall was made from 100% reused FSC-certified timber, which has been part of our stock hire wall panels for over 10 years. The graphics were printed on 100% recycled fabric made from recycled marine plastics. The graphic was fitted using an aluminium tension fabric system (TFS), which allows it to be reused as long as it is properly stored and rolled after each event (which, of course, it is). Even the aluminium TFS we purchase is sourced in the UK and contains at least 70% recycled aluminium content.
The counters on our stand were part of our reusable hire stock, each of which has been used for over 10 years. Traditionally, these counters were made from MDF, but with the recent availability of more sustainable wood boards, we now use a fibreboard called Fibrapan Bio. This material is made with an adhesive derived from the bark of the tree itself, and the timber fibres come from sawmill byproducts. Unlike MDF, which ends up in landfills, Fibrapan Bio can be used to power biomass boilers once it reaches the end of its lifespan. Although Fibrapan Bio costs five times more than MDF, we’ve perfected our product design to ensure long-term use of our high-quality hire stock exhibition components. This approach allows us to absorb the cost difference by maximising the reuse of these components.
Our 4-meter-high tower is designed to be modular, allowing the pre-programmed colour-changing LED sign panel to be easily swapped out for another brand. The tower itself can also be used as a 3-meter-high structure. Similarly, the custom LED counter along the back wall features a front panel that can be easily swapped for a custom-cut branded panel, making both items highly reusable and customisable for any client.
We used eco-velour exhibition carpet, which is cleared of debris when no longer usable and then recycled into polypropylene pellets. Both the roof section and timber columns in this stand design are part of our vast hire stock and are used, refurbished, and reused. The tower and counters were finished with a water-based spray paint, making them ideal for easy refurbishment and minimising any negative environmental impact associated with toxic paints.
